It doesn’t always have to be your other half
While Steven Spielberg cries foul to the Academy about the legitimacy of Netflix films, it seems like the streaming platform has already won the war. There seems to be far more people in favour of the chances it gives to director’s compared to a few years ago, which is quite a turnaround. Someone Great is another in a long line of romcoms they have released that have helped rejuvenate the genre – and when you’ve got the cool of Lakeith Stanfield attached it will probably appeal to a broader audience than normal too. Aspiring music journalist Jenny has just landed her dream job at an iconic magazine and is about to move to San Francisco. Rather than do long distance, her boyfriend of nine years decides to call it quits. To nurse her broken heart, Jenny gathers up her two best friends, Erin and Blair, for one outrageous last adventure in New York City.
Kaytin Robinson directs (Paul Feig serves as producer), with Gina Rodriguez playing Jenny and Stanfield as her ex-boyfriend, and DeWanda Wise and Brittany Snow featuring in the support cast.
