Willy Wonka wonked

To the consternation of all those who seek nothing more fulfilling than to watch childhood favourite films, the news that Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory is being released solely in 4:3 format, rather than the previously promised anamorphic widescreen, will probably come as a shock only equalled by the discovery that Santa Claus was, y'know, not real. However, for the rest of us, it's worth noting that this is the start of a slightly worrying move towards pan and scan if the film isn't thought to appeal to an adult audience; it is to be hoped that such children's classics as Last House on the Left and New York Ripper don't suffer a similar fate.

For those with an interest in this release, you could always check out the anamorphic 1.85:1 disc release in the UK - see our review here.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
