Will Smith says "no" to further close encounters

Blockbuster star Will Smith has decided to turn down a principal role in the sequel of sci-fi hit Independence Day.

The sequel, to be directed once again by director Roland Emmerich and co-writer Dean Devlin, will be released in 2016 and will mark the 20th anniversary of the original film, which also launched Smith into the A-List of film stars.
Smith was hesitant to return following two possible rewrites by The Amazing Spiderman's James Vanderbilt, but it is now confirmed that he won't be making an appearance in the sequel.

Another franchise Smith won't be reappearing in is the Men in Black series. Despite the box office success of the third film, Sony has struggled to make enough money to make a profit, due to its bankable (aka. expensive) stars.
