Watch Oscar nominated live action short film Brotherhood

There are no shortage of short films released each year, typically providing a pathway for directors to gain credibility and build a reputation that will allow them to take on their first full feature length. With the Oscars arriving in the next few weeks, we'll be highlighting as many of the shorts that have been nominated as possible. First up is Brotherhood, which has been nominated in the live action section, the fourth short from Tunisian Canadian director Meryam Joobeur that orginally debuted at TIFF in 2018. It's an Arabic language film telling the story of a Tunisian man who arrives back home from Syria with a new wife, with concerns he may have been working for ISIS, which creates considerable stress amongst his family. You can watch short film Brotherhood in full below.

Mohamed is deeply shaken and suspicious when his estranged eldest son Malek returns home from Syria to rural Tunisia with a mysterious young wife in tow. The emotional complexities of a family reunion and past wounds lead to tragic consequences.

Joobeur also wrote the script, with the cast featuring Salha Nasraoui, Mohammed Houcine Grayaa, Malek Mechergui, Chaker Mechergui, Rayene Mechergui and Jasmin Yazid.
