Warner announce Steptoe & Son and Frankie Howerd Doubles
Warner Home Video have announced a further two Double Feature discs for release on 4th August 2003 with a retail price of £15.99 each. The details are...
Steptoe & Son DVD Double Feature - this DVD includes the two classic Steptoe films Steptoe & Son and Steptoe & Son Ride Again, both of which are spin-offs from the original, much loved TV series which ran from 1962 to 1974. Each film will be presented in 1.85:1 Widescreen (Anamorphic Enhancement has not been specified) with their original Mono soundtracks.
Steptoe & Son - Stripper Zita (Carolyn Seymour) settles for any old iron when she agrees to marry rag-and-bone man Harold Steptoe (Harry Corbett) after they meet in the West End. Furious Albert (Wilfrid Brambell) tries every trick he knows to drive the new bride from his household and maintain the status quo. It seems he's succeeded when Harold deserts his wife, but before he can say "good riddance to bad rubbish" Harold learns she's pregnant. So which one of them will end up on the scrap-heap?
Steptoe & Son Ride Again - Sent to buy a horse to pull their cart, Harold comes back steaming drunk with a half-blind greyhound in tow. Worse still, he's bought it from a local gangster who wants his money - and fast! When the dog loses a race and Harold has to pay off the debt, he comes up with another bright idea: collect his father's life insurance. The only drawback is that Albert has to convince the insurance company that he's dead!
Frankie Howerd DVD Double Feature - Featuring two feature-length spin-offs from the hugely successful Up Pompeii TV series on one disc you will find each film presented in their original 1.33:1 Full Screen aspect ratio with Mono sound.
Up Pompeii - A funny thing happens to Roman slave Lurcio (Howerd) on the way to the rent-a-vestal-virgin market stall: he inadvertently becomes the possessor of a scroll listing the names of the conspirators plotting to murder Emporer Nero (Patrick Cargill). Serving the guests at his master's orgies suddenly seems easy compared to the trouble the scroll brings - the upstart slave is elected to act as a spy and infiltrate the ring-leader's circle! Much comical uproar ensues, but all are in for a nasty shock when Mount Vesuvius decides to erupt. Also stars Michael Hordern as Ludicrus Sextus.
Up The Chastity Belt - Raised in a pigsty believing that his mother is one of the pigs, Lurkalot (Howerd) is a servant at the court of Sir Coward de Custard (Graham Crowden). On the whole life is good, and his sideline in selling rusty chastity belts and love potions in the market makes him a decent living. When his master's castle and lands are lost to the villainous Sir Braggart de Bombast (Bill Fraser), Lurkalot must fight to protect the honour of his master's lovely daughter Lobelia Custard (Anne Aston). This leads to his joining the Crusades to bring back Sir Coward, but on the way he discovers that he is in fact the twin brother of the mighty Richard the Lionheart! Also stars Eartha Kitt and Roy Hudd.
