Unrelated (R2) in February

New Wave Films have announced the DVD release of the multi-award winning British drama ‘Unrelated’ directed by Joanna Hogg for 2nd February. Having won the Fipresci International Critics Award at the 2007 London Film Festival, the film has gone on to win many more awards and when it was released at cinemas last year received unanimous acclaim from the critics and public alike. Hailed as an emerging new talent, this is Joanna’s first feature film although she has many years previous experience directing programmes for the BBC such as ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Casualty’.

Unrelated’ tells the story of Anna (played by Kathyrn Worth) who, childless and in a deteriorating marriage, feels condemned to a life on the periphery of events. A summer holiday in Italy with the family of an old school friend becomes a reminder of a life she has not lived. She finds herself amongst a large, messy family group which puts into relief her loneliness and awkwardness. Sexual tensions simmer and Anna believes she may have found a second chance...

The cast includes Mary Roscoe as Anna’s friend Verena, and hot young actor Tom Hiddleston who plays Verena’s son, Oakley. Tom Hiddleson won the Laurence Olivier Award for best newcomer 2008 for a Cheek by Jowl production of Cymbeline and was also nominated for the same award for his role as Cassio in Michael Grandage’s admired production of Othello at the Donmar Warehouse. He has recently starred in Ivanov alongside Kenneth Branagh.

Unrelated’ is a stylish and outstanding debut, described by one critic as a new kind of British film, influenced by Eric Rohmer and François Ozon.

Extras on the DVD include an interview with the Director, Joanna Hogg.
