Two from Barbra Streisand
Columbia have announced two movies starring Barbra Streisand for release later this year.
Funny Girl will be released on the 23rd of October, with a retail price of $24.95. In this loosely-based-on-fact 1968 musical drama, directed by William Wyler (Ben-Hur) and co-starring Omar Sharif (Lawrence of Arabia), Streisand stars as Fanny Brice, the singer-comedienne who rose from Jewish slums to find Broadway and Hollywood fame, including starring in the musical Ziegfeld Follies alongside Fred Astaire. Streisand won the Best Actress Academy Award for this, her debut big screen performance. The disc will feature an anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer, English 5.0 and 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, two featurettes entitled "Barbra in Movieland" and "This is Streisand," song highlights, production notes, filmographies and trailers.
The 6th of November sees the release of the 1991 romantic drama The Prince of Tides, but no disc specifications are available yet. Streisand (also directing and co-producing) stars alongside Nick Nolte (48 Hrs.) as a psychiatrist counselling Tom Wingo, a troubled man who must confront a lifetime’s worth of difficult memories in order to save his suicidal sister. Nolte won much critical acclaim (and an Academy Award nomination) for his portrayal of Wingo.
