Three Monkeys (R2) in July

New Wave Films is pleased to announce the DVD release of Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s multi award-winning film which was released in cinemas earlier this year to great critical acclaim.

With his previous films, 'Uzak' and 'Climates', the Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan placed himself in the ranks of the world’s leading film-makers. His latest film, 'Three Monkeys', was his third film to premiere in the Cannes Film Festival where he was awarded the Best Director Prize.

Eyüp takes the blame for his politician boss, Servet, after a hit and run accident. In return, he accepts a pay-off from his boss, believing it will make life for his wife and teenage son more secure. But whilst Eyüp is in prison, his son falls into bad company. Wanting to help her son, Eyüp’s wife Hacer approaches Servet for an advance, and soon gets more involved with him than she bargained for. When Eyüp returns from prison, the pressure amongst the four characters reaches its climax.

The noir-ish plot is a new departure for Ceylan, but it is a drama about guilt and regret, doubt and fear that has been described as almost Dostoyevskian. The extraordinary HD camerawork magnifies the twisting emotions of the characters as they find themselves wrapped in a tangle of deceit, bringing a whole new eloquence to the close-up.

'Three Monkeys' is released on 6th July 2009, BBFC cert 15, SRP £19.99. Extras on the DVD include an Interview with Nuri Bilge Ceylan and the Theatrical Trailer.
