The Roads Not Taken trailer: Javier Bardem and Elle Fanning star in this Berlinale contender

Now that Sundance has wrapped it’s time to move onto the next major film festival of the year. The 70th Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 20 through to March 1, where Sally Potter’s The Roads Not Taken (which riffs on the title of Robert Frost‘s 1916 poem) will have its premiere as part of the official competition. She’s amongst good company with other filmmakers debuting new work at the festival including the likes of Eliza Hittman, Hong Sangsoo, Kelly Reichardt, Christian Petzold and Abel Ferrara. There will be a few more to come from the festival this month but for now watch the The Roads Not Taken trailer above.

The follows a day in the life of Leo and his daughter, Molly as she grapples with the challenges of her father’s chaotic mind. As they weave their way through New York City, Leo’s journey takes on a hallucinatory quality as he floats through alternate lives he could have lived, leading Molly to wrestle with her own path as she considers her future.

Directed by Sally Potter (The Party), Elle Fanning co-stars alongside Bardem, with Branka Katic, Milena Tscharntke, Laura Linney and Salma Hayek all in support.

The Roads Not Taken gets a limited US release on March 13. We’ll keep you updated once we hear any news on a UK release date.
