The Ring from Dreamworks

Dreamworks Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of The Ring for 1st September 2003 with a retail price of £19.99. The 2002 US remake of the Japanese original (Ringu) will be presented on DVD with an Anamorphic Widescreen transfer, English DD5.1 Surround audio, special designed animated menus that utilise elements from the tape featured in the movie, and the following extras...

  • An all-new 15-minute experimental short film created by director Gore Verbinski exclusively for the release. The short film reveals more electrifying secrets that bring viewers closer to understanding the real mystery of THE RING. Those brave enough to view this all-new film on the DVD need only click "Don't Watch This". As the exclusive-to-video film opens on your screen, static takes over the television set, followed by the indelible jagged circular white glow of THE RING. Then, viewers will be taken into the character's thoughts and lives leading up to the seven-day mark - leaving them in a conflicted state of knowing more, but perhaps understanding less?
  • A hidden Easter Egg will give you access to the full length version of the Tape as featured in the movie.

So to summarise, we get the same pathetic array of bonus features as the readily available R1 release, but lose the DTS soundtrack.
