The Red Shoes SE (R2/UK BD) in July

ITV have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Red Shoes on 6th July 2009. Moira Shearer stars as talented young dancer Victoria Page who finds herself torn between Julian Craster (Marius Goring) and Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook). Directed by Powell and Pressburger, featuring cinematography by the renowned filmmaker Jack Cardiff, The Red Shoes has received a new digital film restoration that was premiered at this year’s Cannes Classics Film Festival.

The Blu-ray Disc release is a HMV Exclusive.

Steve Gallant, Director Home Entertainment and Digital at ITV Global Entertainment said “We’re delighted to be involved in restoring and presenting Michael Powell’s brilliant and lovingly restored The Red Shoes. The launch is part of our ongoing film restoration commitment, preserving our critically acclaimed and hugely popular library of landmark British film titles in addition to re-mastering in high definition for digital re-release on Blu-ray DVD and in digital cinema as well as traditional 35mm theatrical screenings for a new generation of film lovers to enjoy”.

The Red Shoes was restored in partnership with UCLA Film & Television Archive in association with The BFI, The Film Foundation, Janus Films and ITV Global Entertainment Ltd. Restoration funding was provided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, The Film Foundation, and the Louis B. Mayer Foundation.

The film will then be shown at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on 18 June before its Blu-ray and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release on 6 July.
