The Personal History of David Copperfield trailer: Dev Patel becomes a classic Charles Dickens character
It was announced last month that director Armando Iannucci's new film, The Personal History of David Copperfield, would be opening this year's London Film Festival. This adaptation of Charles Dicken's classic novel made it's debut at TIFF recently and has been well received by critics so far, and looks like it will play well with audiences too. Judging by the trailer it seems it will be told in typical Iannucci-style, with lots of farce and one hell of a cast backing up Patel. The first trailer for The Personal History of David Copperfield has just arrived and you can watch it above.
A fresh and distinctive take on Dickens’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece, The Personal History of David Copperfield chronicles the life of its iconic title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it. From his unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer, David’s journey is by turns hilarious and tragic, but always full of life, colour and humanity.
Iannucci directs a star-studded cast featuring Dev Patel, Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Ben Whishaw, Aneurin Barnard, Morfydd Clark, Anthony Welsh and Rosalind Eleaza.
The Personal History of David Copperfield opens in UK cinemas on January 10, 2020, with a US date still to be announced.
