The Peanut Butter Falcon trailer: A young man with Down syndrome wants Shia LaBeouf to help him wrestle
Since jumping off the blockbuster bandwagon it's been a slow road back for Shia LeBeouf who has decided to follow his own path both on and off-screen. His first screenplay for Honey Boy has seen the film garner great reviews at festivals this year, while The Peanut Butter Falcon has also had a strong reaction so far from critics. It stars first-time feature actor Zack Gottsagen who has Down syndrome, which will please a lot people when it comes to on-screen representation. A UK date was announced for the film yesterday and you can watch the trailer for The Peanut Butter Falcon above.
A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, The Peanut Butter Falcon tells the story of Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck. A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler, a small time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor, a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.
Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz have co-written and co-directed their first feature, with the cast led by Zack Gottsagen and further support from LaBeouf, John Hawkes, Bruce Dern, Dakota Johnson, Jon Bernthal and Thomas Haden Church.
The Peanut Butter Falcon opens in US cinemas on August 9 and in the UK on October 18.
