The Outsider trailer: Jared Leto joins forces with the yakuza

This isn't a release that has been on many people's radars recently but as part of the 80 or so films Netflix plan to release this year, they have revealed the trailer for The Outsider which you can check out above.

Set in post-WWII Japan, it follows an imprisoned American soldier (Leto) who is released with the help of his yakuza cellmate. Now free, he sets out to earn their respect and repay his debt while navigating the dangerous criminal underworld.

A script for the film has been knocking around for 5 or 6 years, with Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender both once attached to the project, before Netflix acquired it at some point during 2016.

Danish filmmaker Martin Zandvliet (the Oscar nominated Land of Mine) helms his first English language film, with Tadanobu Asano, Kippei Shiina, Shioli Kutsuna, Emile Hirsch, Raymond Nicholson, Rory Cochrane, Nao Omori, and Min Tanaka all supporting Leto.

The Outsider kicks its way onto Netflix on March 9th.
