The Old Man and the Gun trailer: Robert Redford bows out by sticking up banks

The word legend is too easily attached to entertainers today but Robert Redford is one actor who deserves the title. He announced his retirement from acting in 2016 once his schedule of work was complete and in the David Lowery directed The Old Man and the Gun, he marks his final appearance in something of a 70s throwback piece. It is getting a release around the award season and you can expect this to at least be in the running for one or two prizes. The retro poster below is also pretty cool. The film is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest’s commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.

Lowery wrote the screenplay based on David Grann's 2003 New Yorker article of the same name and the cast also features Danny Glover, Tom Waits, Tika Sumpter,  John David Washington, Elisabeth Moss and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

The Old Man and the Gun gets a US release in October but no news on a UK date just yet.
