The Mambo Kings & Jamboree in August

Warner Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD debuts of The Mambo Kings and Jamboree for 16th August 2005 priced at $19.97 SRP each.

The Mambo Kings (1992)-- starring Antonio Banderas and Armand Assante as Cuban musician brothers who take America by storm -- is based on Oscar Hijuelos’ Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love, and features performances by top Latin artists, including Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval and the Mambo All Stars. Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos are among those who provide additional songs for the soundtrack.

This DVD Edition also includes an additional scene with Assante and co-star Cathy Moriarty which was not shown in theatres.

Said Glimcher, “I'm really happy that Warner Home Video has restored this important scene to the DVD release of ‘The Mambo Kings.’ I always felt it was essential to the film, but others at the time found it too shocking. Within today's context, I don't think it is; furthermore, it completes the arc of the character Lanna Lake (Cathy Moriarty) and it re-establishes the original intended rhythm of the film.”

Jamboree (1957) – As soon as the 1955 song “Rock Around the Clock” sounded the opening notes of Blackboard Jungle, others were sure to follow. Jamboree tells the story of a hit romantic singing duo whose love affair is threatened when their feuding managers encourage them to go solo. The real excitement of the musical drama is in the performances by ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll greats: Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Slim Whitman, Frankie Avalon, Connie Francis, Count Basie and Fats Domino, among others. There are 21 songs in all, with music cued by the era’s top Disc Jockeys, including Dick Clark and Jocko Henderson.

DVD Special Features include:

  • English Mono
  • Subtitles: English, French and Spanish (Feature Film Only)
