The John Frankenheimer Collection (R1) in January
MGM Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The John Frankenheimer Collection on 22nd January 2008 priced at $39.98 SRP. Released as part of a larger United Artists 90th Anniversary campaign, this set includes the 1961 film The Young Savages, a film that first teamed John Frankenheimer with Burt Lancaster and is the story of a young boy murdered by a New York gang along with the 1965 film, The Train, a World War II action-drama set in the final days of Nazi occupied Paris, which once again teams Frankenheimer with Lancaster and earned an Oscar nomination for its script.
Also included in the gift set is Frankenheimer’s most iconic film, The Manchurian Candidate, starring the legendary performer Frank Sinatra in the story of a Korean War veteran brainwashed by the Chinese government in a plot to assassinate the presidential candidate. Rounding out the collection is Ronin, the espionage thriller starring Robert De Niro and featuring Frankenheimer’s trademark elaborate car chases.
