The Happytime Murders red band trailer: A puppet show definitely not meant for kids

Brian Henson took over the mantle of his father Jim some time ago, but if the trailer for his new film, The Happytime Murders, is anything to go by he is a long way off creating the same sort of legacy. Sweary, rude muppet-looking creatures set the tone for the film, which depending on your sense of humour, may struggle to raise a laugh. It's a fairly old conceit that lacks the shock factor that once made it funny. See Avenue Q, Ted, Team America etc. Take a look at the red band trailer for The Happytime Murders above to see what you think.

This comedy is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.

Brian Henson is directing, with Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks all starring.

The Happytime Murders comes to UK cinemas on August 24th 2018.
