The Girl Trilogy (Extended Versions) (UK) in September

Momentum Pictures have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Girl Trilogy (Extended Versions) on 19th September 2011. Based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy of novels and featuring a breakthrough performance by Noomi Rapace, the trilogy follows the unlikely heroine Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist. First as they unite to solve the case of a missing girl and then as they fight to uncover the truth about Salander’s past, a past full of secrets that a mysterious underground government group would kill to keep hidden.

These sets include extended versions of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, featuring 2 hours of content not previously released in the UK, available in both original Swedish language with English subtitles and English language audio (both language options are 5.1 DTS-HD MA on Blu-ray).

The extended versions were originally shown on Swedish television and split into episodes (2 episodes per film, 6 episodes total). This is how they are presented here, 2 episodes per film (on a single disc) with each episode on the Blu-ray discs running approximately 1hr 33mins (the DVD versions will run a little shorter due to PAL speed up). All 6 episodes are presented in 1.78:1 (as noted in the comments this is the standard aspect ratio for ...Played with Fire and ...Kicked the Hornets' Nest, where as ...Dragon Tattoo was shown at 2.35:1 in its theatrical version).

Available on DVD (£39.99 RRP) and Blu-ray (£49.99 RRP), both include a bonus 4th DVD disc with the following extras:

  • Cast Interviews including Noomi Rapace (Lisbeth Salander) and Mikael Nyqvist (Michael Blomkvist)
  • Photo gallery
  • Vanger Family Tree
  • Niedermann vs Roberto: Behind the Fight Scene
