The Curse of La Llorona trailer: Beware the weeping woman
The Curse of La Llorona is a take on a classic Mexican folk tale about The Weeping Woman. Michael Chaves gets his first shot at directing and his work with James Wan will continue with his second film, The Conjuring 3, which he is currently working on. The trailer follows the usual sort of beats we've come to expect from these films, relying on jump scares as the only way to get at people. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.
This is Michael Chaves' debut, with the cast starring Linda Cardellini, Patricia Velasquez, Raymond Cruz, Sean Patrick Thomas and Madeleine McGraw.
The Curse of La Llorona opens in UK cinemas on May 3rd.
