The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros in September
Peccadillo Pictures have announced the UK DVD release of The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros on 10th September 2007 priced at £19.99. At centre stage in this unique coming-of-age film is 12-year-old Maxi (Nathan Lopez) who walks and sways his hips, high on life, laughing and joking with his playmates. Like any diva, he has a wardrobe to die for – an assortment of sandals, shorts and shirts in every colour imaginable. His mum has passed away and his dad and brothers, who are devout Catholics, have turned to stealing mobile phones to earn a better living. Maxi cooks, cleans and sews for them and is their alibi when things go wrong. But things become complicated and family tensions arise with he meets and develops a crush on Victor (JR Valentin), a by-the-book new cop on the block who won’t be bribed. When his father Bogs kills a student in a messed-up robbery, Victor is assigned to the case and Maxi must figure out whether his loyalty lies with his family or with Victor.
Shot in the backstreet of Sampaloc, Manila, The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros is a bittersweet tale of adolescence.
Extras include Q&A with the director and a director’s commentary.
