Terminator: Dark Fate trailer: Linda Hamilton and Arnie prepare us for the day after Judgement Day

The possibilities of where the Terminator franchise could go seemed endless after two classic films from James Cameron - until Terminator 3 was dished up and it was all downhill from there. Terminator Genisys was a particular low point, and five films in the plug was finally pulled on a series of films that had tied itself up into too many knots. Which is no surprise really, as Cameron always felt the story ended after the first sequel. But given how much money T2 made at the box office, Warner Bros. were never going to leave it alone.

Terminator: Dark Fate sees Cameron return in a producer role, along with receiving a story writing credit, going back to re-imagine an alternative set of events after the 1991 sequel. As you'd expect, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back, as is Linda Hamilton (the jump in age between the two films might be covered as this takes place the day after Judgement Day) but sadly, no Edward Furlong. You would imagine this to be the last roll of the dice to make Terminator work and still feel relevant after so many poorly made sequels; success will open up doors for further films, while a box office flop will surely send it back down to melt in molten steel once and for all. Tim Miller (Deadpool) directs, with the cast starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna and Natalia Reyes.

Terminator: Dark Fate opens in UK cinemas on October 23 and November 1 in the US.
