Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker score features elements from all eras of the saga - but that doesn't mean every character will appear

Reports are circulating that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a confirmed run time AND that Yoda and Darth Vader are confirmed to appear. Amazing - every word of what they have just said is wrong.

These rumours, and they ARE rumours, stem from a statement from John Williams brother, Don, who said "Jon's started up with another Star Wars. We started our last week. He's got a 135 minutes worth of music to write. Okay, so that kind of tells you how long the film is [laughs]. It is top to bottom music. We've done four days. We just scratched the surface. I think we've got something like 34 minutes in the can at this point.

But I can tell you that every theme that you ever heard is going to be compiled into this last effort. Every one. Leia. Yoda. The Phantom. Darth. All of it. It's going to be in there. And in his usual style, he hides them. You gotta go look for them. You'll find them, but you gotta go look for them."

So we have a rough time that suggests the film might run for 135 minutes. That's not a confirmation - indeed reshoots of some key scenes are still underway and the final runtime could vary dramatically from this.

The other key point is that although Don Williams mentions a number of key characters, it's in the context of the score - and give this is the final film in a nine film saga, there's little surprise that there will be aspects of each of the most recognisable themes that creep in as the story unfolds. As Don himself says, many of these themes are hidden. John Williams makes a point to weave interconnecting themes through his compositions and both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi feature themes for characters that don't actually appear hidden in with those that do.

So - no, other than what we already know, there are no new confirmations. There's every chance the film does feature Yoda, Vader and more and it might well be around or dead on 135 minutes - but right now not one of those things is guaranteed, confirmed or can be taken as read.
