Star Wars Episode IX - Billy Dee Williams to return as Lando

Billy Dee Williams is joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX according to reports on The Hollywood Reporter, reprising his role of Lando Calrissian owner of the Millennium Falcon before Han Solo got his hands on it during that game of Sabacc.

Williams last played Calrissian in live action in the 1983 Return of the Jedi, but he has since voiced the character in animated form for both video games and most recently, Star Wars: Rebels.

Lando was also a central character in this year's Solo: A Star Wars Story where he was there played by Donald Glover.

Williams follows rumours earlier this week that Keri Russell was joining the film in an unknown role.

Star Wars: Episode IX will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver and Kelly Marie Tran. It will be directed by J J Abrams based on a story by Abrams and Chris Terrio. It is due to hit UK cinemas on 20th December 2019.
