Spielberg to remake West Side Story?

Director Steven Spielberg, better known for his blockbusters Jaws, E.T and Jurassic Park, may be making his mark in a completely different genre - the modern musical.

Spielberg has expressed an interest in remaking West Side Story, the musical inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet that was introduced on Broadway in 1957. The stage show eventually led to a successful film adaptation in 1961, which went on to win ten Academy Awards including Best Picture.

This could spell an interesting change of direction for Spielberg, as he has never made a musical before, so any news on a possible West Side Story remake will be published as it comes.
