Spider-Man Blu-rays in June

With a new Spider-man movie coming to cinemas this Summer it's no surprise that Sony will re-release the three Sam Raimi helmed features on Blu-ray around the same time. Indeed they've been announced for US release on 12th June 2012 but what makes these re-releases more notable than most is that now Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 will be available on Blu-ray with all of the old DVD extras intact (the old Blu-ray releases had none of the DVD extras).

The first film even has some new extras thrown in for good measure, while all three will be packaged in new collectible O-Ring sleeves. There is also a free movie ticket offer for US residents, and ultraviolet digital copies for all three films.

To confuse matters however it's worth noting that the new release of Spider-Man 3 is actually missing the second disc of extras found on the old release. So there's both good and bad news for these re-releases.

Eagle eyed viewers may notice that Spider-Man 3 AV specs and extra content is identical to the main feature disc of the existing release, so it's fair to assume the transfer will be unchanged.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 - along with the newly added extras - also feature new DTS-HD MA tracks and it would be reasonable to assume they'll feature new transfers as well.

This however is not confirmed, and neither is the region coding which the rear covers list as Region All for Spider-Man and Region A locked for the sequels.

UK releases with the same new cover-art designs will arrive a week later on 18 June 2012 and offer the same extras. The only differences are the Audio and Subtitle options and that all three films are listed on the rear covers as Region All (once again not confirmed and subject to change).
