Hase, a ruthless merchant, and Dovid, an earnest young Scholar, have had the same idea; to build a railway station that will safeguard their future. But Hase is determined to prevent his competitor from controlling the new railway trade. Taking advantage of Simon’s vulnerability, he enlists him as a spy against the village and in doing so places everyone’s future into the bewildered young man’s hands.
