Dreamworks have announced the Region 2 DVD release of Shrek, the excellent animated film featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz.

Due on 12 November, it looks like our release doesn't match the Region 1 disc in a couple of ways - firstly is the number of discs which from the press release looks like we're only getting one, secondly the price of £22.99 and finally the lack of a DTS soundtrack. Of course the press release could be mistaken so let's not jump to conclusions just yet!

What we do have does look pretty good, but if it is only one disc for £22.99 then we'll be very disappointed indeed given the huge array of extras our US-based friends are going to be getting on their discs. This is what they look like (taken direct from the press release):
  • Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party: Exclusive never-before seen animated scene that continues the story featuring all of the characters from Shrek
  • The Tech of Shrek: Amazing Behind-The-Scenes featurette that shows you how the characters and movie were brought to life - from the early stages of creating the skeletal system of the characters to the complex layers of muscles, skin and hair to the development of fluids and fire that makes this movie unprecedented in the world of filmmaking.
  • Shrek's Revoice Studio: Exclusive never-before-used technology that enables viewers to voice their favorite character
  • Hilarious Character interviews with Shrek, Fiona, Lord Farquaad and Donkey
  • Production Notes
  • Cast and Crew Bios
  • A Filmmaker's Commentary that provides insider information on the making of this groundbreaking animation hit.
  • International Dubbing Featurette: Learn how Shrek was dubbed into languages around the world
  • Set top games: Trivia Game, Decorate the Gingerbread Man, Character Morph (allows kids to mix and match the character's body parts)
Of course we can also expect a widescreen anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
