She, The Ultimate Weapon Vol.1 in May

Manga Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of She, The Ultimate Weapon - Volume 1 for 15th May 2006 priced at £19.99. Based on the best-selling manga by Shin Takahashi and produced by Studio Gonzo (Burst Angel; Full Metal Panic and Hellsing), She, The Ultimate Weapon was one of the biggest anime hits in the US in 2005 and has since become one of the most talked about new anime series on both sides of the Atlantic.

Set in the very near future, She, The Ultimate Weapon tells the story of Shuji and Chise, two high school students living in Hokkaido City, Japan at a time of war. Shy, timid, clumsy, apologetic and prone to emotional breakdowns, Chise asks Shuji to be her boyfriend more as a test of courage than anything else. Despite being confused as to what "love" really is, Shuji agrees and the pair embark on a tentative teenage romance and all that goes with it – peer group pressure, gossip, intense emotions and feelings of ambivalence.

However, what Shuji does not realise until it is too late is that his new girlfriend has been turned in an engineered weapon of mass destruction, capable of destroying entire cities. As war rages, Chise is forced to fight more battles, each time becoming more weapon than human. As romance blossoms, Chise and Shuji must find a way to divert their daily focus from the ongoing war, destruction and killing towards strength, friendship and love.

The deluxe double-disc She, The Ultimate Weapon comes complete with a special limited edition slipcover and collector's booklet with forward by Jonathan Clements (co-author of the Anime Encyclopedia).

This two-disc set includes episodes 1 to 4 repeated across both discs. Disc one offers English and Japanese language tracks in Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1, while disc two offers English and Japanese language tracks in Dolby Digital 2.0 and DTS 5.1 audio. Optional English subtitles are of course present.

Extras include conversations with voice actors (Shuji and Chise); "All About Saikano" featurette; "Shaikano Times" TV programme; Japanese TV commercials; and colour characters sheets.
