Shameless Films in December

Shameless Screen Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of Lucio Fulci’s The Black Cat and Massimo Dallamano’s Venus in Furs on 31st December 2007. Priced at £12.99 each, features are detailed below…

The Black Cat - We all know director Lucio Fulci for his depraved nasties like New York Ripper, but if you're wondering why in France he's held in the same esteem as Hitchcock, then the deliciously eerie The Black Cat is a great place to start.

Inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe tale, this black cat is a malevolent moggy that stalks through a sleepy English town appearing to fulfil the murderous wishes of its owner, the sinister psychic medium Professor Miles (Patrick Magee in fine deranged form). What Professor Miles has not reckoned on is his cat turning him into the next mouse to slowly kill!

High on gothic atmospheric thanks to the moody cinematography of Sergio Salvati, this unusual Fulci tale of claustrophobic terror is a little seen gem that compares to the best output of the Hammer and Amicus studios.

Venus in Furs - This is the true film adaptation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's infamous novel of perversion and pain. Most importantly though it stars the astonishing Laura Antonelli, naked and fired up for action!

Regis Vallee plays the Peeping Tom obsessive Severin who craves to be punished and humiliated due to being caught as a child spying on a naked woman in furs. Seeing Wanda (Antonelli) writhing in fur reawakens his twisted desires but in turning her into his dominant Venus he soon opens up a world of cruel sexual enslavement that will push him to the edge of sanity.

A powerful descent into sadomasochistic degradation this beautifully cruel study of sexual submission is an erotic delight to be savoured over and over again…

The Black Cat and Venus in Furs aka Devil in the Flesh are presented remastered in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with English 2.0 sound. Also included on each disc is a Shameless original trailer gallery.

In the New Year, Shameless currently have the following titles on the schedule (dates are subject to change)…

28th Jan: Flavia the Heretic and Ratman
25th Feb: Night Train Murders and The Frightened Woman (Femina Ridens)
31st Mar: My Dear Killer and Manhattan Baby
