Serenity trailer: Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are back together again
Remember Joss Whedon's Serenity from 2005? Well, this Serenity has absolutely nothing to do with that. However, it does bring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway back onto the same screen some years after Interstellar with Steven Knight (who also wrote the script for the upcoming Girl in the Spider's Web) directing. It's a straight-up thriller with a decent enough cast and you can get a first glimpse of Serenity by watching the trailer above right now.
Baker Dill (McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain who leads tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems.
Knight also wrote the script and the supporting cast features Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane.
Serenity has an early October date lined up in the US but nothing yet for the UK.
