Is Sera joining the MCU? Marvel are apparently casting a transgender character for one of their upcoming films

According to Geeks Worldwide, Marvel might be about to cast their first transgender role for one of their upcoming films. The role is for a film or TV series due to be shot in 2020 which means that any one of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, Hawkeye or most the most likely candidate: Thor: Love and Thunder.

As Geeks Worldwide speculate, there is only the one established transgender character in the Marvel lineup to date – and that is Sera, who has plenty of links with the Thor storylines…

In the comics, Sera is an Anchorite, a small group of male, wingless Angels who were kept inside a temple in Heven, the Tenth Realm. Sera was the only one of the Anchorites who identified as a woman, thus being the first and, so far, only major transwoman in Marvel comics. She was kept inside the temple until she met Angela, Thor’s long-lost half-sister, and helped her defeat a monster. For her help, Angela freed Sera and they stuck together through many adventures across the Nine Realms, eventually becoming lovers.

With Marvel embracing diversity big time in Phase 4, this is exciting news for those who want their comic book movies to be more inclusive.
