Secretary rental release

This is one rental release worth reporting just so I can post the artwork! Secretary will be available to rent from 29th September 2003 and is released through High is the artwork.

And here is an alternative front cover, though we're not sure which will be used at this stage.

From the PR:

Based on stripper-turned-author Mary Gaitskill's story of the same name, director Steven Shainberg's SECRETARY is the independent film box office smash of the year. One of the most critically acclaimed films of 2003, and winner of the prestigious Special Jury Prize for Originality at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, the film also earned star Maggie Gyllenhaal (Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind; Adaptation; Donnie Darko) a whole host of Critics' Circle awards and a 2003 Golden Globe nomination for her stunning portrayal of Lee Holloway, the repressed legal secretary of the title.

Recently released from hospital, where she has been treated for self-harming, young Lee Holloway (Maggie Gyllenhaal) finds some relief from life with her dysfunctional middle-class family when she gets a job as a secretary to demanding lawyer, Mr. Grey (James Spader). Although the work is mundane, Lee is desperate to please her new boss, on whom she has begun to develop an obsessive crush. It's not long before employer and employee cross the line of professional conduct and embark on a mutually satisfying sado-masochistic love affair. When Mr. Grey suddenly withdraws his attentions, much to Lee's frustration, she almost succumbs to settling for a relatively normal relationship with on-off boyfriend, Peter (Jeremy Davies). But, having finally found love and self-affirmation through masochistic submission, Lee is determined to fight to regain and preserve her newfound happiness no matter what the cost.

Startlingly honest and often darkly comic, SECRETARY (cert. 18) is a unique love story that courageously explores the themes of sexual intimacy, dominance and surrender. Directed by Steven Shainberg (Hit Me), the film stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Spader (Driftwood; 2 Days In The Valley; Crash; Sex, Lies And Videotape), Jeremy Davies (Solaris; Saving Private Ryan), Lesley Ann Warren (Twin Falls Idaho; The Limey), Stephen McHattie (Beverly Hills Cop III; Salvation), Oz Perkins (Legally Blonde) and Amy Locane (TV's Melrose Place).
