Roberto Orci to Helm Star Trek 3

With J.J. Abrams now knee-deep in production on the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII, Transformers, Amazing Spiderman 2 and Cowboys and Aliens scribe Roberto Orci is set to make his directorial debut with Star Trek 3.

Orci and his co-writing/producer pal, Alex Kurtzman, announced the end of their partnership recently, in order to focus on solo projects. What this means right now remains to be seen, with Orci and Kurtzman not exactly being held in the highest regards as screenwriters. They also worked on the previous J.J. Star Trek films, the last of which was a gorgeous-looking but somewhat empty vessel.

A release date has yet to be set, but expect Summer 2016 when it only has The Avengers, Batman and Superman to challenge for box-office supremacy.
