Premature trailer: A Sundance hit that shows young love must deal with adult emotions

As countless films prepare to reveal themselves to the public for the first time at this year's Sundance, there are still quite a few from the previous edition of the festival that are only now gearing up for release. That is the case for Premature, a coming-of-age story that went down well on the festival circuit. It's a love-at-first-sight type of thing, with one or two twists thrown in along the way (although not quite as mushy as The Sun is Also a Star). The film is getting a limited release in the US and you can watch the trailer for Premature above.

On a summer night in Harlem during her last months at home before starting college, seventeen-year-old poet Ayanna meets Isaiah, a charming music producer who has just moved to the city. It’s not long before these two artistic souls are drawn together in a passionate summer romance. But as the highs of young love give way to jealousy, suspicion, and all-too-real consequences, Ayanna must confront the complexities of the adult world—whether she is ready or not.

Rashaad Ernesto Green directs his second feature, with Zora Howard (who also co-wrote the script with Green) and Joshua Boone in the lead roles supported by Michelle Wilson, Alexis Marie Wint, Imani Lewis, and Tashiana Washington.

Premature opens in select US cinemas and on VOD on February 21.
