Point Break remake gets a new lead

It's being suggested that Édgar (looks a bit like Hugh Dancy) Ramírez is close to signing up for Ericson Core's remake of the 1991 surfer-thriller Point Break. Gerard Butler was initially signed on to play the role of Bodhi, previously portrayed by Patrick Swayze, whose shoes are already tough to fill. The cast also includes Luke Bracey, taking over the role of Johnny Utah, previously played by Keanu Reeves, while Ray Winstone adds a bit of gruff to the FBI agent who doesn't like surfers.

Meanwhile, the original director of Point Break, Kathryn Bigelow, is set to direct Tom Hardy in The True American. Based on the novel by Anand Giridharadas, the story tells of a self-proclaimed terrorist (Hardy), who shoots a Bangladeshi immigrant and ends up on death row. Years later, his victim forgives him and launches a legal battle to spare him from execution.

Another post 9/11 tale to put under Bigelow's belt, who's certainly no slouch when it comes to action. We think that Ericson Core has a lot of work ahead of him. Point break still has some incredibly well done action sequences, and it's a curious choice for a remake. Let's see just how far they're willing to take the story.
