Presented for the first time on DVD by Nouveaux Pictures, this new release of THE TIN DRUM is the uncut version of the film and includes a brand new, exclusive interview with the film's director Volker Schlöndorff (Palmetto; The Handmaid's Tale).
THE TIN DRUM stars David Bennent (Legend) as Oskar Matzerath, the son of a permissive bourgeois couple. Born with a fully developed intellect, young Oskar is outraged by the passivity of the German people regarding the unstoppable growth of Nazism and the decadence of his family and the world around him. On his third birthday, when he is given the tin drum he was promised at his birth, he decides he will take a stand against the adult world by refusing to grow up. Consequently, he remains three years old for the next 18 years, using his drum and a piercing, glass-shattering scream as his means of protest.
Schlöndorff's film is a surreal masterpiece full of unforgettable imagery, both grotesque and beautiful. Sometimes disturbing and often darkly comic, THE TIN DRUM is a justifiably acknowledged classic.
