Below is a round-up of title announcements for late June through to the end of July that we've not covered elsewhere on the site...

Diary of a Bad Lad - Safe Cracker Pictures – 28th June 2010 – This crime drama follows the efforts of frustrated film maker, Barry Lick (Jonathan Williams), and his team of inexperienced film students, as they attempt to document the life of scheming career criminals Ray Topham (Tom Miller) and Tommy Morghen (Joe O'Byrne). As the subjects get wise to the filmmaker's plans to expose them, they plot to exploit Barry's artistic desperation. Extras include: Extended Intro by Tommy Morghen, extra footage, It’s Documentary, It’s the Truth! Featurette, Bad Lad crew biogs, Birty’s Video Diaries, Mad Tony Videos, Radio Spot and on DVD-ROM a 174 page novel and Tommy’s alternative commentary.

Hidden Fortress: The Last Princess - 4 Digital Media – 28th June 2010 - This remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1958 classic is presented with Japanese audio and English subtitles. The only extra is the original trailer.

Drop Dead Diva Season 1 - Sony – 28th June 2010 – This quirky comedy drama series stars Brooke Elliott (Broadway’s “Taboo”) as a shallow wannabe model who dies in a sudden accident only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, plus-size and recently deceased attorney, Jane. Extras include short films, deleted scenes and all-new behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Chiko - Vertigo Films – 28th June 2010 – German crime drama. Features are TBC.

Post Grad - Fox – 5th July 2010 - This quirky coming-of-age comedy includes several featurettes (‘Know Your Strengths: Career Advice’, ‘How Not To Get a Job’, ‘A Guide to moving back home’, ‘Post Grad Confidential’, ‘Real Life Advice with Alexis Bledel & Zach’ and ‘Dress for Success’) plus deleted scenes, trailers, two interactive games and a music video.

Battle for Terra - Universal – 5th July 2010 – This sci-fi animated feature is given what looks to be a barebones release.

Hachi – A Dog’s Tale - EIV – 5th July 2010 – Richard Gere and Joan Allen star in this American adaptation of a Japanese tale about the unbreakable bond between a dog and its master. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, extras include a making-of and trailer.

Cargo - Optimum – 5th July 2010 – A woman travelling through deep space discovers a secret with deadly implications in this Swiss sci-fi drama. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, extras are TBC.

Command Performance - Lionsgate – 5th July 2010 – Dolph Lundgren directs and stars in this action thriller. The disc is barebones.

Lemon Popsicle - Arrow Films – 5th July 2010 – Set in the 1950s, this comedy tells the story of three young men searching for their first sexual experiences. The disc is barebones.

Age of the Gunslinger - Metrodome – 5th July 2010 – This western is given a barebones release.

The Smurfs Season 1 - Arrow/Fabulous – 5th July 2010 - Arrow Films / Fabulous Films have secured the Home Entertainment rights to the cult classic 1980’s Hanna-Barbera produced Smurfs cartoon series and the original 1976 feature film ‘The Smurfs and The Magic Flute’. The original series has never been available before on DVD in the UK. Features include:

Vampire - Stax Entertainment – 5th July 2010 – aka Demon Under Glass, this vampire thriller is given a barebones release.

Beyond the Pole - Brightspark – 5th July 2010 - Brian Tongue (Rhys Thomas - Bellamy's People) and Mark Bark Jones (Stephen Mangan - Green Wing) are setting out on the first Carbon Neutral, Vegetarian, and Organic expedition ever to attempt the North Pole. As a world first they have high hopes of getting into the Guinness Book of Records and, if all goes well, of saving the planet from Global Warming. Unfortunately they have never done anything like this before, and they hadn't reckoned on the polar bears, the cocky gay Norwegians, played by True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard and Lars Arentz-Hansen, or on Mark's rapidly loosening grip on reality. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, the latter includes a making of, Q&A with the director and behind-the-scenes footage.

Afterwards - Optimum – 5th July 2010 – John Malkovich, Evangeline Lilly and Romain Duris star in this psychological thriller about a lost soul, the ruins of his life and a sinister stranger offering redemption, but at what cost? Extras are TBC.

The Avengers Series 4 - Optimum – 5th July 2010 - As Series 4 of definitive spy-fi The Avengers hit UK audiences in 1965, there were some major changes, the first being the introduction of Diana Rigg as Emma Peel, replacing former sidekick to John Steed (Patrick Macnee), Dr Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman). The name Emma Peel derived from producers wanting to create a character with ‘man appeal’, and formed part of a new sexier direction. Fully restored, extras include:

Bikini Girls on Ice - Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment – 5th July 2010 - A group of hot college girls are stranded on their way to a bikini car-wash fundraiser and find themselves hunted by a maniac axe-man mechanic. Extras include behind-the-scenes, bloopers, deleted scenes, audio commentary and auditions.

The Headless Woman - New Wave Films – 12th July 2010 - Acclaimed Argentinean filmmaker Lucrecia Martel steps back behind the camera for her third feature film with this tense thriller concerning a woman who fails to recognize the people surrounding her as well as their intentions after inadvertently killing a dog while driving on the highway. There are no listed extras.

Hideous Kinky - Universal – 12th July 2010 – Kate Winslet stars in this drama that follows the story of a young mother and her daughters journey to Marrakech, Morocco during the early 1970's. Extras include the trailer, behind-the-scenes, film clips and cast and crew Q&A.

The Dinner Party - Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment – 12th July 2010 – This Australian thriller written and directed by Scott Murden includes Director’s Commentary and the trailer on the disc.

The Unpolished - Second Run – 12th July 2010 - An unflinching study of a girl caught up in a complicated adult world, Pia Marais’ film comes to DVD with a director approved transfer, newly filmed interview with the director, new and improved English subtitle translation and a booklet featuring a new essay by author and critic Brad Stevens.

Baseline - Optimum – 12th July 2010 - When a bouncer at one of East London's grimiest clubs thwarts an attempt on the life of his boss, and local crime lord, he finds himself deep in an underworld that he's actively avoided his whole life. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, extras include “A Look beneath: an interview with Freddie Connor and trailers.

Trucker - High Fliers Film – 12th July 2010 – Michelle Monaghan stars in writer-director James Mottern’s independent debut feature. The disc is barebones.

Life During Wartime - Artificial Eye – 12th July 2010 – Ten years after the critically acclaimed 'Happiness', Todd Solondz revisits the tangled personal lives of three sisters and the people they love and find them struggling to find their places in an unpredictable and volatile world. Features are TBC.

Lourdes - Artificial Eye – 12th July 2010 - Jessica Hausner’s third feature is the story of a miracle in Lourdes. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, features are TBC.

My Father Pablo Escobar - Brightspark – 12th July 2010 – This documentary tells the inside story of the life, death and legacy of drug lord Pablo Escobar as seen through the eyes of his only son and the sons of his most prominent victims. There are no extras.

MVM anime releases on 12th July 2010 include a Gantz Collection, Rozen Maiden Traumend Vol. 1 and Mahoromatic – Something More Beautiful Vol. 2. A week later on 19th July 2010 they have a Desert Punk Box Set.

Samurai Zombie - MVM – 19th July 2010 – This horror-comedy is from screenwriter Ryuhei Kitamura (director of ‘The Midnight Meat Train’ and writer-director of ‘Versus’) and director Tak Sakaguchi (the star of ‘Versus’ and fight choreographer for ‘Tokyo Gore Police’ and ‘Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl’). The disc is barebones.

Naruto Shippuden The Movie - Manga – 19th July 2010 – The fourth feature-length Naruto adventure features the older characters from the Shippuden series. Features include: English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1 (with English subtitles) audio options; original Japanese movie trailer; “Heroes Come Back” special movie version; “Michi” special movie version; line art gallery; Naruto Shippuden series trailer.

Additional Manga anime releases in July are Ah! My Goddess Series 2 Part 2 on the 19th and Soul Eater Part 2 on the 26th.

Blood River - Revolver Entertainment – 19th July 2010 – This psychological thriller explores the collapse of a young couple’s seemingly perfect relationship following their chance encounter with a mysterious drifter on a remote desert highway. The disc is barebones.

Jack Cardiff – Cameraman - Optimum – 19th July 2010 – This film is a documentary about Jack’s life and career. As well as many interviews with Jack himself it includes interviews with people like Martin Scorsese, Thelma Schoonmaker, Kathleen Byron, Kim Hunter, Moira Shearer, John Mills, Lauren Bacall, Charlton Heston and Kirk Douglas all singing his praises. Features are TBC.

In the Name of the King – Director’s Cut - Metrodome – 19th July 2010 – Uwe Boll’s action adventure starring Jason Statham is given an extended director’s cut release with 37 minutes of added material. The disc is barebones.

How I Met Your Mother Season 4 - Fox – 19th July 2010 – Fox push out Season 4 just a few shorts months after Season 3. Extras include a Season 3 recap, commentary on selected episodes, ‘Barney Stinson: That Guy’s Awesome’ music video, a gag reel and A Night with your Mother panel discussion.

Psychosis - Lionsgate – 19th July 2010 - A modern twist on the cult British horror films of the 1970s, Psychosis is described by the press release as a mind-shattering journey into the darkest recesses of the human imagination. The film stars Charisma Carpenter and the disc is barebones.

Paranoiac - Eureka – 26th July 2010 – Oliver Reed stars in this Hammer Films production that is released on both DVD and Blu-ray in the UK for the first time. Extras include: Optional music & effects track, long-unseen original trailer and Blu-ray-only exclusive of a high-definition stills gallery of rare materials

Hierro - Optimum – 26th July 2010 – After believing she spotted her son in a traveling caravan, a distraught mother returns to the island of El Hierro, where son disappeared three years previously. This thriller is available on DVD and Blu-ray. Extras are TBC.

The Perfect Sleep - Icon – 26th July 2010 – The directorial debut feature from Jeremy Alter is set against the backdrop of a noirish dreamscape, where a tortured man returns to the city he swore he would never return to. The disc is barebones. Trailer here.

Hercules in New York - Lionsgate – 26th July 2010 – See Schwarzenegger in his first movie role. The disc is barebones.

Company K - Scanbox Entertainment – 26th July 2010 – The story of a unit of American Marines in World War I, Company K is based on the novel by William March and on his own experiences in the trenches of France. Extras include director’s commentary, William March documentary, 5 deleted scenes and 3 trailers.

The Beast in Space - Shameless – 26th July 2010 – Science fiction was never so wild and depraved as it is in The Beast In Space, a sex mad intergalactic saga starring Sirpa Lane (Love Goddess Of The Cannibals) who’d already shocked the world when she starred in Walerian Borowczyk’s notorious art-house porno classic, ‘The Beast’. She now returns in this mind-blowing, completely unofficial, outer space set “sequel” as a woman forced to submit to the carnal lusts of an horrific space monster in a movie that gives trash cinema lovers exactly what they want in a riot of space disco insanity, sci-fi oddness and twisted eroticism. Features include: Shameless Rebuild with extra footage, previously only available in XXX version; alternate scenes comparisons; optional English subtitles; theatrical trailer; Shameless trailers.

Sons of the Wind: Bangkok Ninjas & Chanbara Striptease - Manga – 26th July 2010 – Two live-action offerings from Manga, the former a French martial arts/free-running action-adventure and the latter a Japanese erotic period action adventure. The former only has a trailer, the latter is TBC (but probably the same).

ODDSAC - Plexi – 26th July 2010 – This ‘Visual Album’ is a collaboration between the band Animal Collective and filmmaker Danny Perez. The DVD package includes: the 55 minute film with news songs and score by Animal Collective; a 40 page art book in a slipcover case; high definition transfer and 5.1 surround sound audio.

Brotherhood Season 1 - Paramount – 26th July 2010 – This modern day Cain and Abel story centres on two brothers on opposite sides of the law: one a gangster (Jason Isaacs) and the other a politician (Jason Clarke). The only extras are cast biographies.

White Collar Season 1 - Fox – 26th July 2010 – This crime drama series which pairs a convict with an FBI agent will include cast commentaries, deleted scenes, gag reel and featurettes.

Breaking Bad Season 2 - Sony – 26th July 2010 – A DVD only release in the UK, Season 2 of this drama is packed full of extra content. Features include:

Happy Ever Afters - Verve Pictures – 26th July 2010 - This screwball comedy in which two weddings collide is written and directed by Stephen Burke. The disc has no extras.

Royal Pains Season 1 - Universal Playback – 26th July 2010 - In this US TV drama series Hank Lawson discovers how the other half live when he becomes medic to the rich and infamous. Extras include: Episode Intros, Deleted Scenes, Audio Commentaries, Gag Reel, Pauls Video Blogs.
