New Welcome to Marwen trailer: Steve Carell finds solace in his toys

Based on Jeff Malmberg’s award-winning 2010 documentary Marwencol, Welcome to Marwen certainly has more than a touch of Toy Story about it. Malmberg's film was a lot darker than this, which looks like an obvious tear-jerker aimed unapologetically at scooping up as many Oscars as possible. Hopefully it will be better than it looks at the moment. Check out the trailer for Welcome to Marwen above.

When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery.  Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic.  As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.

Robert Zemeckis directs, with Eiza González, Diane Kruger, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Mann, Gwendoline Christie and Merritt Wever all featuring in the cast.

Welcome to Marwen is released in UK cinemas on January 11th 2019.
