The Front Runner new trailer: The rise and fall of Gary Hart

Hugh Jackman for President? He'd get our vote. Even though we can't vote in the US. But you know what we mean. Actually, Jason Reitman's The Front Runner is about ex-politician Gary Hart who was leading the race for the White House back in 1988 only to suddenly drop out of the race due to a sex scandal. The film played at the London Film Festival and features a strong support cast, although reviews so far have been largely average. Watch the new trailer for The Front Runner above to see more.

The film follows the rise and fall of Senator Hart, who captured the imagination of young voters and was considered the overwhelming front runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was sidelined by the story of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice. As tabloid journalism and political journalism merged for the first time, Senator Hart was forced to drop out of the race – events that left a profound and lasting impact on American politics and the world stage.

The rest of the cast features Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons, Mamoudou Athie, Molly Ephraim, Steve Zissis, and Sara Paxton.

The Front Runner will be opening in the UK on January 11th 2018.
