New Skyscraper trailer: The Rock tries not to Die Hard

As charming as The Rock may be, he still feels a little lost amongst all these generic blockbusters. Skyscraper will probably end up doing decent enough numbers at the box office but is there a film when Dwayne Johnson hasn't played himself? He could do with an iconic role or two to lift him beyond his off-screen persona. We've all seen what happened to Will Smith's career over the past decade. Just sayin'. Check out the new trailer for Skyscraper above which has more than a few shades of Die Hard to the set-up (and The Towering Inferno of course).

Johnson stars as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers.  On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it.  A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building...above the fire line.

Rawson Marshall Thurber (Central Intelligence) directs his own script, with a cast also featuring Pablo Schreiber, Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Noah Taylor and Roland Møller.

Skyscraper arrives in UK cinemas on July 12th 2018.
