New Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer: Only one monster can save the world now
Warner Bros. are going all out to make sure bums are on seats for this one. Having scrapped their Dark Universe concept after the disaster that was The Mummy, they sure as hell aren’t letting the MonsterVerse go the same way. A 5-minute clip of Godzilla: King of the Monsters played at CinemaCon earlier in the month and this comes only a couple of weeks after the last TV spot and a good string of trailers. HBO also showed the same 5-minute clip during the latest Game of Thrones episode, which may also be released to the general public in early May ahead of the film's release.
It hits cinemas a week after Aladdin and a week before X-Men: Dark Phoenix during the early weeks of the summer, so they know blockbuster competition will be stiff - especially if we get another hot summer. With a reported $200 million budget attached it can’t really afford to fail. If you want to get another good look at Godzilla: King of the Monsters, check out the final trailer above.
The story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Directed by Michael Dougherty, the cast stars Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits UK cinemas on May 29th and US theatres on the 31st.
