New Downton Abbey trailer: The hit TV show transfers to the big screen

Successful TV series being turned into films seems to be all the rage right now. The Downton Abbey film follows on from announcements about features for Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead (with Deadwood on the way at the end of this month). Downton Abbey was hugely successful on both sides of the Atlantic and the cast have returned for one last hurrah four years after it finished airing in 2015. There’s still some time until the release date but fans can check out the new trailer for Downton Abbey above.

The television series followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country house.  Over its 6 seasons, the series garnered 3 Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-US television show in the history of the Emmys – even earning a Special BAFTA award and a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show along the way.

Michael Engler directs, with the cast featuring Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton.

Downton Abbey opens in UK cinemas on September 13 and the US on September 20.
