Netflix coming to the UK

Gizmodo UK and Techradar are reporting that US film-streaming service Netflix are gearing up to launch in the UK and Ireland in early 2012. The service, which lets you stream films over the internet to a wide range of set-top devices as well as your PC, is the leading one of its kind in the US but here in the UK will be going head-to-head with current top dog, LOVEFiLM, the DVD rental-turned-streaming company that is now owned by Amazon.

Introducing competition into the UK DVD rental/streaming market has to be a good thing since LOVEFiLM systematically bought out most of their UK competitors before being gobbled up by the Amazon behemoth earlier this year and the fact Netflix already has widespread manufacturer support should give it a strong base to launch from next year.
