Ned Kelly rides on to DVD this February

Universal have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Ned Kelly for 9th February 2004. Hounded by the police, together with his first-generation Irish immigrant family, Ned rebelled against a system that sought to punish his family on trumped-up charges of attempted murder. Leading a small gang of men including his young brother, Dan and two friends, Steve Hart and Joe Byrne they gained support through the towns they plundered despite their criminal reputation.

This fictional tale, based on actual historical events, stars A Knight’s Tale’s Heath Ledger in the titular role; his on-off girlfriend and star of the creepy film The Ring, Naomi Watts, as his love interest Julia Cook; Lord of the Ring’s Orlando Bloom as best friend Joe Byrne; with young brother, Dan, played by Laurence Kinlan of Angela’s Ashes fame; and friend Steve Hart played by newcomer Philip Barantini. A Working Title Australia production, this is the first title to be made through the new Australian division of this hugely successful production company.

The film will be presented in 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround audio options. DVD Extras include features on Ned Kelly in Popular Culture and “The Real Ned Kelly”, Poster Design Concepts, a Theatrical Teaser Trailer, Theatrical Campaign Trailer, and Storyboards to final feature comparisons.
