Momma's Man (R2) in October
Diffusion Pictures have announced the October DVD release of Azazel Jacob’s hit indie film Momma’s Man. One of the best reviewed films of the year, Momma’s Man is the ‘exceptionally, funny, tender and poignant’ (Indiewire) story of a man’s return to his parent’s Tribeca loft apartment and his inability to leave.
After a holiday visit with his parents, Mikey is headed to the airport to return to his wife and newborn baby. Except he doesn’t board the plane. Instead he returns to his parents’ loft in lower Manhattan, back to his childhood room that has since been converted to storage. Unsure of his own motivations, he makes up excuses about why he’s staying – his flight is delayed, his flight is cancelled. A day passes, and then another, and he calls home and work to say he can’t return just yet – his parents are getting old, his parents are ill, time is too short.
According to director Azazel Jacobs, “Momma’s Man began as a way of documenting the place where I grew up – in a rented loft in downtown Manhattan where my folks have been living for over 40 years… I hoped that the film would, in some way, allow me to reconcile with the inevitable. I wanted to use Momma’s Man as a way of letting go, a way to forever be able to visit the place and time, at least in two dimensions.”
‘Momma’s Man’ is released on 12th October 2009, BBFC cert 15. Extras on the DVD include a Director Interview and the Original Trailer.
