Midsommar trailer: A first look at Hereditary director Ari Aster's new film
Hailed by many as the best horror film of 2018, Hereditary certainly put director Ari Aster on the map. It was a chilling debut, and while the ending was somewhat disappointing, Hereditary showed how well formed a director Aster already is. His follow up, Midsommar, remains firmly in the horror genre, although it did not make an appearance at Sundance last month, so details about the film are sketchy so far. Although, Aster recently called it a “Scandinavian folk horror”, which makes sense given the title (Midsummer is a large annual Scandinavian festival). A24 will be releasing the film, and the first tease dropped last week. That has quickly been followed up by the release of the first trailer for Midsommar, which you can watch above right now.
A young couple travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown and attend its midsummer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly descends into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
Aster has once again penned the script, with the cast starring Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper and Jack Reynor.
Midsommar drops in mid-summer on August 9th.
