Michael Shayne Mysteries Vol.1 in March

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Michael Shayne Mysteries Volume 1 for 20th March 2007 priced at $29.98 SRP. The subject of 77 novels, over 300 short stories, a dozen films and radio programs, TV shows and even a handful of comic books appearances, one of pop culture’s most evergreen and successful private eyes makes his DVD debut in The Michael Shayne Collection this March. Available on two flipper discs, the collection includes Sleepers West (1941), which finds Shayne protecting a murder witness on a train bound for San Francisco; Blue, White and Perfect (1942), pitting the ever-ready Shayne against industrial diamond smugglers; The Man Who Wouldn’t Die (1942), a seemingly supernatural thriller uncovering a phoney spiritualist racket; and Michael Shayne: Private Detective (1940), the famous detective’s film debut. Incorporating the classic conventions of the square-jawed, hard-boiled urban detective with offbeat comedy and deductive methodology, Shayne’s many exploits on the crime-ridden streets of Miami represent the prototype for American crime fiction. Making his first appearance in the 1939 novel Dividend On Death by David Dresser (published as Brett Halliday), Shayne is portrayed in these four classic noir adventures by Lloyd Nolan (Hannah And Her Sisters) as the Irish-American gumshoe, with supporting performances from Hollywood veterans such as George Reeves (“The Adventures Of Superman”), Elizabeth Patterson (“I Love Lucy”) and Marjorie Weaver (Gold Diggers of 1937).

The Michael Shayne Collection is presented in English stereo and mono in the original full screen format. Bonus features include:
