Mary Shelley trailer: Elle Fanning plays the creator of Frankenstein

The story of Frankenstein has been told many times before although the life of its creator, Mary Shelley, has remained a subject rarely touched upon. In 1986 we had Ken Russell's Gothic, which recalled the events that led to Shelley writing the story, but not a full blown biopic about the writer. Reviews haven't been too favourable about it so far but watch the trailer for Mary Shelley to get your take on it.

Mary Wollstonecraft’s family disapproves when she and poet Percy Shelley announce their love for each other. The family is horrified when it finds that the couple has eloped, accompanied by Mary’s half-sister, Claire. While staying in the home of Lord Byron at Lake Geneva, the guests are challenged to write a ghost story, which leads Mary to conceive her novel Frankenstein.

Haifaa Al-Mansour directs (who also made the wonderful Wajda in 2012) and alongside Fanning is Douglas Booth as Percy Bysshe Shelley, Bel Powley as Claire Clairmont, Ben Hardy as John William Polidori, and Tom Sturridge as Lord Byron.

Mary Shelley is released in the UK on July 6th 2018.
