Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins the cast of Gemini Man alongside Will Smith

Ang Lee's Gemini Man can now boast Mary Elizabeth Winstead as one of the film's leads alongside previously cast Will Smith - given Smith's track record of late we were a bit worried about the film, but with Winstead on board things are looking up.

The film sees Will Smith on the run from a younger clone of himself who has been sent to kill him - sounds a little (OK, a lot) like the Rian Johnson sci-fi Looper to us which saw Bruce Willis trying to escape his younger self (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt).

Previously, Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black)  Gemini Man, so it would seem that Winstead just managed to edge ahead to be cast at the last minute. We'd have been more than happy either way. Winstead has proven top tier action lead form in the form of the 2011 prequel to The Thing, a film that was unfairly slated on release.

Gemini Man is coming to the UK in October 2019.
